Join Us at the Ceilidh
Father’s Day Weekend has always been special in Franklin, N.C.
Bagpipes fill in the air, clans gather for the downtown parade. Celtic music makes you sway, and coos and sheep are on display. Our Scottish heritage is strong in this town. This June would feature the annual offering of the Taste of Scotland and Celtic Festival which is a fun-filled three day event.
Alas, the Taste of Scotland, Inc. event organizers have decided to postpone the festival until June 2022. We cannot organize such a large event this late in the year, since our governor has limited any outdoor group to no more than 75 people.
We will have a Ceilidh on Saturday, June 19. 2021 beginning at 5:00 o’clock at the Rathskellar. There will be Scottish food and beverages available. What is a ceilidh? It is a social event in which there is Scottish or Irish music, singing, and dancing. Our featured band will be the “Jacobites By Name”, a band of musicians from North Carolina and Tennessee. Also joining us will be “Jim and I”, a local musical duo playing favorite Scottish tunes.
Highlights of the Ceilidh will be recognizing Clan Crawford as our honored clan for 2021 and Little Miss Tartan, Daisy Haley, will be crowned by Kendall Holland, our retiring Little Miss Tartan. We will be featuring a nod to Robert Burns with the Address to the Haggis and the Immortal Memory.
Mark your calendars now, and let’s celebrate our Scottish heritage. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to find the latest news about the Ceilidh. Our Facebook is Taste of Scotland Festival (look for the red/yellow Scottish emblem) and follow us on Instagram @tasteofscotlandfestival.
